I’m just a couple of weeks away from my next kung fu rank test. If I pass this (and I’m pretty confident that I will), I’ll be ranked Brown I. That’ll put me about a year away from my black belt test.

We’ve been working on cane techniques this session. Aside from a single empty-hand takedown, everything we’ve done has been work with the cane. Strikes, blocks, deflections, joint locks, takedowns, throws, and a very long cane form. We test in a couple of weeks and while I’m glad to have some time remaining to polish up my form, I feel pretty ready.

Last weekend I found out that there’s a Capoeira Angola school in south Jackson. I’m fascinated by this art and I was thrilled to find out that it’s available here. Unfortunately there’s no way that I’d be able to attend. I just don’t have the time right now.
