2004 Taiji Legacy

Filed under: kung fu — Matthew Glover @ 11:06 am

At the end of July, I’m going to a Chinese martial arts tournament in Dallas. I probably won’t compete unless they throw in a free competition event registration with my registration for seminars. That’s what I’m really interested in. The workshops.

Right now it looks like I’ll be taking in four classes:

  • Damo Straight Sword
  • Pa Kua as a Martial Art
  • Wing Chun Combat Applications
  • Xingyiquan

I’ve just emailed each of the guys teaching those workshops, just to make sure that they’ll be suitable for somebody at my level of training, and to try to weasel out more details on what they’ll cover. I have to mention that at no point in my life did I ever expect to email a 34th generation Shaolin monk.

  1. Got a reply from Sifu Benny Meng, who will be teaching the Wing Chun workshop.

    Dear Mr. Glover,

Thank you for your inquiry. The workshops I’ll be doing are suitable for you. The first is on Wing Chun Qigong and the second is on Wing Chun combat applications. In the combat application workshop, I will be explaining how Wing Chun is a system than is designed to counter all styles by focusing on the common denominator of all martial arts – and pointing out the technology that allows Wing Chun to be efficient. There won’t be specific hand-outs but I will be bringing books and videos that cover the topics of the workshop in more detail. I think you will find this workshop both informative and enlightening.

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me directly.

    Sincerely,
    Sifu Meng
